We make two strengths of sugar syrup at Foxes Honey.

An almost 2-1 syrup for Autumn and a weaker one for Spring to simulate an early nectar flow.

Our almost 2-1 syrup recipe (Winter Recipe)

10 Kg of Sugar

6 Litres of Hot Water (Not Boiling)

2.5ml of HiveAlive per finished litre.

We heat our water in an old tea urn and use the tap to add 6 litres of water to our mixing bucket, capable of holding 20 litres.

We then add the sugar and whisk thoroughly with a drill with a big paint mixer attached. When the sugar has fully dissolved, we decant the syrup into 10-litre plastic containers and leave it to cool.

Once the syrup is cold, we add the HiveAlive at 2.5ml per litre.

Our 1-1.25 syrup ( Spring Recipe) uses the same technique, but the quantities differ.

4 Kg of Sugar

5 Litres of water

2.5ml of HiveAlive per finished litre.

This weaker syrup promotes the rapid build-up of bees and wax production.
